The Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) is today holding its annual general meeting, where members are reviewing the organisation’s work and progress over the past year.
Speaking at the meeting, FAMA President Dorothy Kingston said the association achieved a lot in 2025 towards developing the film industry in Malawi. She explained that FAMA focused on activities that helped improve skills and professionalism among local filmmakers.
Kingston said one of the major achievements was bringing in international film professionals to share knowledge and provide guidance to Malawian filmmakers. She also highlighted the successful organisation of a film awards and celebration event, which recognised and promoted local film talent.
The annual meeting, which has brought together filmmakers from across the country, is being held at Bridge View in Lilongwe.
During the meeting, FAMA also released its financial report for 2025. According to the report, the association spent a total of K74,380,395 during the year.
Out of this amount, K47,130,000 was used to organise the film awards and talent celebration event, while K27,250,395 went towards setting up and running the association’s office, including operational activities.
Despite the high level of spending, FAMA reported that it still has a remaining balance of K6,606,102.
The financial figures were officially presented in the report released during the annual meeting in Lilongwe. FAMA says the meeting is important for transparency, accountability, and planning future activities aimed at growing Malawi’s film industry.
