Donald Trump Sues Trevor Noah Over Epstein Island Joke

 by Chrispin Tsitsamanja

United States President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against South African comedian and TV host Trevor Noah, accusing him of making false and defamatory statements during the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The case follows comments made by Trevor Noah while hosting the Grammys, which were broadcast on CBS. During his opening monologue, Noah made a joke suggesting that Trump had spent time on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island. Epstein was a convicted sex offender whose links to powerful figures have been widely discussed over the years.

Trump strongly denied the claim, saying he has never visited Epstein Island. He described the statement as untrue and damaging to his reputation, leading him to take legal action against Noah.

In addition to suing Trevor Noah, Trump also criticized:

  • The Grammy Awards, calling the show poorly organized and unprofessional

  • CBS, for allowing what he described as false information to be broadcast

  • Trevor Noah’s credibility, saying he was not fit to host such a major event

Trump made these comments on his social media platform, where he said comedians should “get their facts right,” especially when talking about serious matters involving public figures.

So far, Trevor Noah has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. CBS and Grammy organizers have also not issued an official statement.

Legal experts say defamation cases involving comedians can be difficult, as jokes and satire are often protected under free speech laws. However, Trump’s legal team insists that the statement crossed the line from comedy into false accusation.

The case has attracted wide attention online, with mixed reactions from the public. Some support Trump’s decision to sue, while others argue that comedians should be allowed to criticize leaders through humor.

More details are expected as the case moves forward.
