Why Malawi is not Eligible For Content Monetization? MACRA and Creators Discuss to Find Solutions
The question of why Malawi is still not fully eligible for content monetization on major digital platforms has continued to worry many content creators in the country. While several African countries have already unlocked monetization opportunities, Malawi remains behind, raising concerns among local digital creators.
This issue was recently discussed during a meeting involving the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and some of the country’s notable content creators, including Kelvin Mtambo, Victor Daffrece, Tupochere Kamoto, Nohaata Seven, Alick Chippie Chauwa, and Bright EKCESS Chiligo.
During the meeting, participants focused on exploring better ways of unlocking content monetization in Malawi. The discussion highlighted the challenges Malawian creators face in earning revenue from platforms like Facebook, Tikty, and Google services compared to creators in other African countries.
MACRA Acting Director General, Mayamiko Nkoloma, reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment to supporting local creators. He noted that there is a growing shift from traditional media to digital platforms, which makes it important for Malawi to be part of the global digital economy.
Nkoloma further revealed that MACRA is already engaging global tech companies such as Meta and Google to help open monetization opportunities for Malawian content creators. This move is expected to create new income streams for creators and strengthen the digital creative industry in Malawi.
The meeting marked a positive step toward addressing the monetization challenge, giving hope to many Malawian content creators who have long waited for equal opportunities in the digital space.
As discussions continue, many creators and stakeholders are optimistic that Malawi will soon join other African countries where content monetization is already a reality.
