Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe Artists to Showcase “Imaginary Harvest” in Lusaka

Artists from Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are set to present a stage play titled “Imaginary Harvest” in Lusaka this March, in a move that highlights growing cultural collaboration in the region.

The play, which explores the history and impact of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, was first performed in Zomba during a theatre festival organized by the University of Malawi last year. After its successful debut, the production is now heading to Zambia before proceeding to Zimbabwe.

“Imaginary Harvest” will be staged at the Lusaka Playhouse on March 26, 2026, as part of its regional tour.

Currently, Samuel Kapinga, a senior official responsible for economic affairs at the Theatre Association of Malawi, is in Zambia to coordinate preparations for the performance and ensure everything is in place.

Meanwhile, the President of the Theatre Association of Zambia, Moses Mtonga, said the time has come for Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to work together to develop arts and talent in the region.

The play was written by a Malawian playwright and features talented actors including Charles Mphoka, Linda Chatha, and Maxwell Chiphinga.

The regional tour of “Imaginary Harvest” is expected to strengthen artistic cooperation among the three countries and give audiences a deeper understanding of shared history through theatre
